 The BK 9 series has changed the way the BK Mikro has worked in the past. Now we have 3 controller versions that will work in conjunction with any of the scanners listed below. Scanners
All BK Mikro scanners utilize servo motors for accurate measurements and increased lifetime.
These scanners are best suited for tight spaces where a larger scanner may not fit, such as Swiss style machines or multi-spindle heads. They can be used to check one or two objects/tools or free space/part ejection.
This scanner is mainly designed to be mounted in the tool changer area of machining centers (HMC & VMC) and checks the tools perpendicular to their tips.

These scanners are designed for checking one or two tools in very harsh environments such as transfer machines, lathes or anywhere heavy amounts of coolant are present.
The “LIN” series is designed for probing functions where rotating scanning is not suitable or possible. Its main uses are for checking tools, free space, cavities, bore holes, part positioning/fixturing and assembly applications.<
This scanner has a body diameter of just 12mm and is the smallest scanner in the BK Mikro line and its typical use will be Swiss Style machines or other applications with tight mounting requirements.
Controllers
All BK Mikro controllers utilize the latest technology for the most flexibility and programming options. The compact, din rail mounted control unit mounts easily in the electrical cabinet and provides a full line of advanced functions.
This Premium version controller has a Profibus interface and is used to store and check multiple functions or object positions. It is typically used for applications checking tools in a machining center’s tool changer.
This Premium version controller can monitor up to 512 different objects or monitoring functions when combined with the BKM9I/O. It is typically used for applications checking tools in a machining center’s tool changer or when multiple functions are needed.
This Basic version controller is used for monitoring one or two tools/objects or can be used for checking free space/part ejection.
This I/O expansion module is used mainly for two reasons:
- To add extra inputs and outputs for selecting multiple tool functions when used with the BKM92 for tool changer applications.
- To allow for settings to be done via dip switches instead of the software when used with the BKM93.

Simple, reliable tool monitoring every machine cycle
The BK MIKRO scanner mounts near your tool. It is the only tool contact sensor that actually "learns" the position of your tool through its unique encoder system and stores this location in its memory. The scanner quickly rotates its scanning wand on every cycle of your machine, checking for tool presence.

How it works
 The BK Mikro systems all utilize a servo motor and encoder which "Learn" the position of the tool or object that you want to check using a wand or probe. This position is then stored in memory and checked after every cycle to verify that the tool is still present within a certain window. If the wand or probe doesn't make it to the position or travels past the learned position the BK Mikro controller outputs a fault signaling that the tool is broken. This fault is interfaced to your machines control which then stops the machine ensuring that the machine doesn't crash and also prevents bad parts from being manufactured.  Where to use it
The BK Mikro scanners are designed to the highest standards and made specifically to be used in the harshest machining environments. The scanners are equipped with "Viton" seals and have a rating of IP 67 which allows for full submersion up to 1 meter.

Object or Free space monitoring: To verify a part is either present in a spindle or has been cut off or ejected from a spindle.
Part ID: Verify the correct part is loaded into the machine by touching a unique feature on that part to verify it is correct
